I like the rain through the sunshine & the way people stop to talk to other people when they see a rainbow spilling into the ocean, or two eagles sitting on a pole. I like the bravery of small purple crocuses; their haste to open to the world, and their graceful necks that stretch to the sun. I like the sudden rainstorms that catch unsuspecting pedestrians with flimsy umbrellas and turn them upside down and inside out.
I like putting my hand on my belly and feeling our child moving - not kicking, but actually moving around inside of me. I like the kicks too, and how it always kicks when I first wake up. I think of it as a hello and good morning.
I like the way Jorge puts his head on my belly and talks to Baby, even when I can’t quite hear all he’s saying. Sometimes he says something like, “What’s that, Baby? She did WHAT? I know, Baby, I know. You see, your mom is a woman, and sometimes she does really strange things, but you just need to love her anyways, because she loves you so much.”
I really really like grilled cheese sandwiches.
I like meeting clients and hearing their stories and capturing their love with my camera. I like smiling babies with wispy hair that stands up straight on their heads. I especially like clients who give up their umbrella to dance in the rain on the cobbled Gastown streets.
I like the stretching feeling of walking for long distances and the rose flush in my cheeks when I return home. I like soup and long conversations with good friends.
I like lying on the couch with Jorge and laughing and laughing over jokes that would mean nothing to anyone else. I like praying with him and putting our hands on my belly because Baby is part of our family now too.
I like when little old ladies stand next to me at a stoplight, and when their smile fills in every wrinkle on their face, and when they say, “It’s a good day to be outside. God is good.”
I like searching for thankfulnesses in every day, even though I often fail at this. I like the idea of everyday thinking, “How can I show God’s love to this person?” I love God’s mercies, and how they are new every morning, and how His forgiveness is abundant and overflowing like the rainstorms.
I also really like piles of pink clouds flying through the sky.
